It’s been a little while since we talked about our extensive 3D printing lab. Let us give you the tour…
Based in the outskirts of York, we share a site with our sister company Stage One Creative Services. Our lab enveloped within the huge hangars and workshops of Stage One, we are lucky enough to have access to a multi-million-pound facility of scenic and machining capabilities that hugely benefits us and our customers and enables us to make anything – from concept to delivery.
Within this large-scale set-up, is our 3D printing lab and within our lab you’ll find some impressive pieces of kit.
Take our HP Multi Jet Fusion 4200, this extraordinary machine enables production of functional parts up to 10 times faster and at a lower cost compared with other processes. Parts are printed in Nylon PA12 with a layer thickness of 0.08 mm, in an effective build volume of 380 x 284 x 380 mm, in only 10 hours. You may have seen some of the wondrous projects we’ve produced on the HP including the Bonzini Football Table, the Recycling Centre Model and Michael Eden’s ‘Form & Transform’ artworks. What we love about this machine is its reliability to produce durable, detailed prints and mass parts with speed and ease.
Next up we have our two Stratasys Fortus machines, including our 250mc and 900mc. Our Stratasys Fortus 900mc has produced some awe-inspiring projects. This 3D Production System builds durable, accurate, repeatable parts as large as 914 x 610 x 914mm in a range of 25+ different high-grade engineering, medical and food-safe thermoplastics, offering different properties and colours. It provides four-layer thickness options and a range of infill options enabling the right balance between detail, performance and speed of production. Some stand-out projects include David & Goliath by Jam Sutton, a Replica Rocket and the Token Homes statue – not to mention a whole host of top-secret Engineering projects! Both of our Stratasys machines are able to achieve unbeatable high definition detail for both creative and engineering projects.
Our 250mc is compact and easy to use. Able to produce accurate prints in fine detail and at incredible speed. With a print size of 254 x 254 x 305mm, it can build parts in production-grade ABSplus thermoplastic, allowing prototypes to faithfully resemble finished products in look and durability. This machine is ideal for small scale projects and engineering prototypes.
Moving on to our MASSIVit 1800. This mammoth machine has a build volume of 1500 x 1200 x 1800mm, allowing us to print at a remarkable size and speed. Items are printed in a translucent acrylic that can readily be finished to achieve creative designs for all manner of applications including advertising, point of sale, experiential marketing and entertainment. You may have seen some of our giant prints such as the Levis Football Helmet, the Blood Cancer Awareness Mannequin Models and the chrome effect Wolf display. This machine is especially effective for visual merchandising projects due to it’s quick printing capabilities and sheer size!
To aid our production, our lab also houses two top-of-the-range scanners including the HandySCAN700 which is portable, accurate and fast. And the Steinbichler Comet L3D Scanner, an extremely accurate piece of kit, ideal for rapid manufacturing.
Along with our scanners, our in-house software enables us to help our clients develop their ideas. Using Magics, we can create brand new designs from scratch or simply polish an existing design so its print ready.
The future of making is here. Get in touch about your next project!
